Your Buying Guide to Mousses and Foams

Your hair is your crowing glory so, you need to make sure that it looks neat and orderly.  There are many styling products to choose from and if you want to make your hair spring back into place, you need to use a mousse and foam product.  And so, we're going to discuss the different types of mousses and foams, what other buyers are saying, what to look out for as well as some of the most popular brands available.

Types of Mousses and Foams

Let's discuss mousse based on hair type.

Fine or Thinning Hair
Mousse is awesome for adding volume and texture to fine or thinning hair—and it also helps hold a blow-dry. All you have to do is towel-dry your hair, apply product at the crown, and style.

Straight Hair
If you're looking for body and movement, mousse is most definitely right for you. A single dollop tussled through damp locks will give your hair the grit and texture it's missing to support your style—and make limp hair come to life. Mousse gives your hair more shape and structure and will help preserve that look you worked so hard on for as long as possible.

Thick or Coarse Hair
Oftentimes, thick or coarse hair gets weighed down by product. To avoid that, take a quarter-sized amount of mousse and massage it into the roots, crown, and around the hairline post-shampoo. This will give your hair hold and help prevent frizz.

Wavy, Curly, or Natural Hair
Mousse is like Botox for your hair, since it since it gives curls and waves major bounce, says Allyson. It also helps to smooth out any frizz. All you have to do is evenly apply the product to damp hair from roots to end, and air dry or use a diffuser to blow-dry.

What Other Buyers Are Saying

As mentioned before, there are many kinds of mousses and foams to choose from so, you need to make sure that you pick one that is fit for your hair.  Know the type of hair you have and read the reviews that other buyers have regarding the product they have purchased.  Here are some feedback that a popular product in the UK has received from its customers:

I don't know why John Frieda have changed their volume mousse. I have used the old one for years and have been very pleased with the volume it gives my very fine, thin hair. It has always left my hair shiny, easy to manage and didn't make it sticky.
This new mousse is not as good and it makes my hair very greasy so I have to wash it every day, which is not good for the hair loss I am suffering with. Wish I could find the old mousse on Amazon.

I'm not sure how to feel about the product because it smells like hairspray, feels like hairspray (it will leave your hands sticky and tacky), and works like a minimal-hold hairspray.

I am impressed with this as I have very fine flat hear, but curly, needs a bit of umph, body and I was very impressed with this and my heir stayed in most of the day which for my hair is unusual. I will get some more.

What to Look Out for

When you buy a mousse, make sure that it works well on the type of hair that you have.  Consult your hair stylist on what to use and check the ingredients so, you would know if you are allergic to it.  And if you are allergic and had a reaction, go immediately to your dermatologist for a cure.
