Your Buying  Guide to Nail Files

Keeping your hands and feet neat and clean is part of good hygiene and this is one that people notice about you.  Using a nail file keeps your nails smooth and free from hang nails.  This guide aims to discuss the different types of nail files, what other buyers are saying, what to look out for and some of the most popular brands.

Types of Nail Files

Coarse Files

These are used when you have acrylic nail extensions.

Medium Files

These are best used for extensions of medium thickness, like most tips and wraps, and to shape the free edge of toenails.

Fine Nails

These are best for removing small bumps, ridges or discolorations and for shaping the free edge of natural nails.

Ultra Fine Nail Files

These are used for buffing and shining all types of nails.

What Other Buyers Are Saying

When buying a nail file, make sure that it fits your needs and it depends on the type of nails that you have.  For example, if you have natural nails, opt to use fine nails or ultra fine nails.  Also, read on the reviews that other people have who have bought the product so, that you have an informed decision.  In addition, ask your manicurist on which type of nail will work for you.

Here are some feedback that buyers have of a nail file out in the market:

No other nail file gets my nails as smooth as this. It feels luxe to get it out and use it. Lovely little case it comes in too. Recommend for all nail people! Easy to clean also, I see this lasting me a long time which is fab. Having the grit so fine also means you're less likely to have nail splits and breakages

I've seen first hand how bad a split nail can be so decided to purchase nail file because of the claims that you can file both ways without splitting a nail and it's life expectancy. I've been using this for a few months now and haven't had any problems. All that's left after a use is a fine powder. It feels well built using quality materials and the case is a nice addition.

Leaves a lovely smooth finish, won't go back to emery boards. Cheap glass files aren't any better than an emery board. So this was worth paying out for, will last a long, long time and can be washed between uses. No good for toe nails but finger nails its quality is worth its weight in gold. Nice storage case too.

What to Look Out for

Canvass online for which nail file is the right one for you.  Ask your manicurist what will work and read on reviews to see other people's experience with the different products.  But more importantly, you need to know which nail file would be right for your nails--if you have acrylic extensions, for example, choose a coarse file.  If you have medium acrylic extensions, choose a medium file.
